π³ About this park
Possibly the biggest school playground in Bellingham. Sunnyland Elementary's playground is a newish, sprawling space packed with stuff to do β tons of different slides, lots of climbing features, funky monkey bars, kid swings (with some lower ones for the younger crowd), and basketball hoops both covered and out in the open. There's a small astroturf soccer field right next to the playground, and Memorial Park's grassy fields and trails are just behind the school. It's a school playground so access is limited β open after school hours weekdays, all day weekends, holidays, and summer. The whole playground is mostly fenced and accessible with a rubber safety surface throughout.
β¨ What makes it special
Just the sheer scale of this playground. There's so much to climb, slide, and swing on that elementary-aged kids could spend a whole afternoon and not run out of things to try. Bonus: with Shadyland for toddlers tucked in the back AND Memorial Park's open grassy fields right behind the school, you've got something for every size kid.
π Bonus: a two-playground destination!
Sunnyland Elementary's main playground (you're here) is the big-kid spot. Behind the school is Shadyland, a small toddler-friendly playground that's mostly in the shade. Memorial Park is right back there too β no playground, but big grassy fields and a walking trail for when kids need to run.
β 5-year-old review
"So many things to do β low swings for younger kids!" π€Έ
